Men at Work: Ned Coker (CCP) si racconta

Nolvadex here. This is the first of our "hobbies" interviews with some videogames industry insiders. The first shooting is with the man called "The manifest". Ladies and gentlemen, Mister Ned Coker, the CCP voice.

GS: Are you a videogames player? what are your best five of all times?

Of course I am. Tough question though.

Goldeneye
Star Control II
Mario Kart 64
EVE Online

GS: What kind of games do you like?

I’m a fan of all sorts of games-video, board-, card- etc. Pen and Paper having a special part in my heart as I think it engages the player’s imagination the most out of all of them and its a highly collaborative and social game.

GS: PC or consoles? Or both of them?

Mostly PC, because I enjoy the options to which the actual game input and UI can be utilized (there are only so many buttons on a controller) but I won’t hesitate bust out any console if there’s a good game to play on them.

GS: Do you have other hobbies? Do you practise any sports?

I play a lot of ultimate frisbee and have been active in the highest level of the mixed division for many years. I’m also a big reader and writer and beginning to dabble in amateur photography.

GS: What do you think about the next big thing in MMOs panorama? What kind of MMORPG will dethrone WoW and … when?

I know what it is, but I can’t say:) From my perspective, I don’t think anyone needs to dethrone WoW. The MMO space is such an amazing form of entertainment that eventually people will come to it and the whole pie will grow without anyone having to carve up pieces.

GS: Do you like to travel? What kind of places you like the most?

I’ve been to Iceland a half-dozen times for work, as well as Morocco on a company trip. I do love travelling abroad as I think it helps to both broaden your experience and humble you a proper amount.

GS: Will you try Jumpgate Evolution and Black Phophecy at launch?

Of course. It’s nearly impossible to work on an MMO for a living without wanting to try out new ones when they launch.

GS: Three words to affirm that CCP presentation parties are the best ones 🙂

E’ Nolvadex che vi parla. Questa volta abbiamo deciso di evadere dai soliti schemi e di conoscere più da vicino i gusti e gli hobby di alcuni personaggi noti dell’industria videoludica. A sottoporsi per primo a questo velocissimo fuoco di fila è stato l’uomo-manifesto della CCP, il signor Ned Coker, un tipo decisamente simpatico.

GS: Sei un videogiocatore ? Quali sono i tuoi cinque videogame preferiti di tutti i tempi?

Certo che si, sono un videogiocatore. E per i cinque titoli… è una domanda decisamente ardua a cui rispondere… direi:

GS: Quale tipo di giochi ti piace?

Sono un fan di tutti i tipi di videogames, giochi da tavolo e di carte. Indubbiamente sono molto legato al fascino che carta e penna esprimono, in quanto stimolano la fantasia dei giocatori più di qualsiasi altra forma, incentivano la collaborazione e la socialità fra le persone.

GS: PC o Console? O entrambi i divertimenti?

Prevalentemente PC, anche perchè adoro il modo in cui puoi inserire input ed utilizzare la UI (ci sono così pochi tasti in un joypad…). Non disdegno comunque di mettermi davanti a una console, se c’è qualche gioco veramente interessante da provare.

GS: Hai altri hobby? Pratichi qualche sport?

Gioco moltissimo a "ultimate" frisbee, e per anni sono stato attivo nella divisione mista ad alti livelli. Sono anche un lettore vorace e mi diletto a scrivere. Sto iniziando persino ad appassionarmi alla fotografia.

GS: Quale pensi sarà la prossima "next big thing" nel campo degli MMO? Riuscirà qualcuno a detronizzare WoW…e quando?

Conosco bene chi potrebbe essere, ma non posso dirtelo :). Comunque non penso che sia così necessario detronizzare WoW, l’universo dei Massive è una forma d’intrattenimento che permette a sempre più persone di farne parte, e l’intero dolce potrà aumentare di dimensioni senza che ci sia bisogno per forza di eliminarne una fetta.

GS: Ti piace viaggiare? Quali posti preferisci?

Sono stato in Islanda una mezza dozzina di volte per lavoro, come del resto in Marocco per un viaggio aziendale. Amo viaggiare all’estero perchè è il modo migliore per ampliare i tuoi orizzonti e per far crescere, in generale, la tua esperienza di vita.
